Advantages of Power cut in Tamil Nadu

Ho-oh...
Did you say advantages.??? You heard me...

Yes, i am going to point you the positive sides of the power cut in tamil nadu..

Reduced Current bills

Yes, ofcourse the current consumpution got reduced.( Not for the people who got inverters at home.) What will be there to consume current hardly for a 12 hour power cut. So first thing, people are getting used to lead a life without power like our ancestors did. Use chimney lamps, use hand fan, use Ural and ammi for grinding and mixie.

Physical Activity Improvement

Using of manual equipments improve their physical stamina. using ammi by ladies helps to improve their stamina. Actually electrical equipments are curse to man kind. How can our grandmothers able to manage with the manual appliances and how does we lose them in name of modern marvel.

Actually, we are revisiting our past. Get the guidance from our grandparents.

Family Bonding

Are you kidding.? Do you mean family bonding.

Yes, I stress that much. Because after the 2 hour long power cut in the afternoon, there comes the rest for all TV programmes, games shows, dance shows etc. What will the children do to pass away the time. They insist their grandparents to tell them their own stories. Thus it helps to revisit the past of our ancestors and children tend to know about their family line. I dont complain this only happens during power cut. This never happens at all. who has time. Dad busy with his laptop. Mum busy with her kitchen work. Grandfather busy with News or Serials. Children busy with their gaming box. Current cut helps to reunite them to one roof and make them to chat among themselves. Grandfather mocking his son how he used to be at his early days. How he got beaten up from him. Dad hit him back with his comments. Children has lot to enjoy more than his video games.

Finally, A whole disintegrated family becomes integrated.

Family Outing

I heard a family used to go outing when there is no power in their home. They go to beach or movie or shopping wherever they can to avoid being in dark. This helps to improve the family atmosphere. Wife is happier that her husband take her out. No more complaint about taking out for movie or shopping. Children dont get bored by seeing movies only in home theatre. Family head is forced to do so by this power cut. Anyway he too has to get relaxed. Chance for a candle light dinner.

Finally, whole family is happier than compared before.

Early office Closing hours

Many companies including cognizant has encouraged their employees to leave early and come early to office to avoid power usage during after hours. This helps the employees to wake early, start early, leave early and spend time with their family.

Finally, people get more brisker than before.

Power saving awareness

When we get everything in place, we actually forget to realise the importance of the thing we actually have. So previous days, we dont have the seriousness to save power. Now this power cut crisis has taught us to be a power saver. Saving tips is shared across facebook page, mails and messages. This is the real eye opener and which will make us to teach our next genration and for the next to come.

Finally, awareness caught our eye.

There might be lot more in your list. This list came from my mind. So you can also add yours...

SAVE POWER, SAVE FAMILY, SAVE WORLD..!!!!

Patience - does that word work in IT?

“Patience is the greatest of all virtues” - An old saying.

But does this particular word “PATIENCE” suits our IT industry. I hardly say Yes. Because none of our people have patience. Patience for?

Patience to wait
Patience to speak
Patience to hear
Patience to work
Patience to get recognition
Patience to earn and etc… (Note: etc is called End of thinking capacity.. Read somewhere)

Patience to wait:

None of us are ready to wait for no one for nothing. Bcoz we earn. Standing in supermarket to wait for billing, we lose patience. In theatre, when front row guys whistle for their stars, we lose patience. When signal denotes 200 seconds countdown, we lose our patience. When in crowding bus, when someone accidentally stamps or push us, we lose our patience. When in restaurant waiting for order, we lose our patience. Crossing road, so much traffic, we lose patience. In car, people crossing in front of our car, we lose patience.

I have only one question in mind. “What we gain when we lose our patience?”

Patience to speak:

Nowadays, we are not good listeners. when our superior comment on us, we lose patience. When others point our mistakes, we point theirs, we lose patience. When on call with mum/dad, we lose patience. where does we gain it when GF/BF on call When a fresher asks for doubt, we lose patience when he doesnt take that. Different is the case for a girl. Anyway, we lose patience.

Question - “What we gain when we lose our patience?”

Patience to Hear:

As i said, we are not good listeners. When our child ask us to attend school function, we have a morning call, we lose patience. When working on issue, if mother calls to know our health, we lose patience. When our CEO or VP address in the open house session, we lose patience. When manager calls for status meeting, we lose patience. When QA guys comes for auditing, we lose patience. When wife complaint about our house mates, we lose patience.

Question - “What we gain when we lose our patience?”

Patience to work:

None are ready to work patiently. Anything we do, there is a speed. we do expect speed. When machine we work does not respond properly, we lose patience. When internet connection is slow, we lose patience. When support guy doesnt respond, we lose patence. When booking tatkal ticket in irctc site on 8am, we lose patience. When code doesnt work as expected, we lose patience. (Seen a clip, guy slapping the monitor with keyboard..:D)

Question - “What we gain when we lose our patience?”

Patience to get recognition:

Hardly people accept other’s recognition. When hike is announced, soon we ask our peer about their hike - Negative, we lose patience. When promotion is announced, when we dont and our peers get, we lose patience. so we change our project or company. We dont wait till next appraisal. Everything in life, be it recognition, reward or award, when our peers get, even though we know that we dont deserve to get it, we want them badly. When our peers goes onsite, we lose patience. Asks PM about our visa process.

Question - “What we gain when we lose our patience?”

Patience to earn:

Currently, Money drives the whole world. The most dominent non living thing that influence a living human life. Most people are selfish in earning. When one of our relative gets a good company, we lose patience. We look for the better. When he gets 7.5L, we negotiate for 8. (even when we get 6L, we say that we earn 8L in front of our relatives.. Thats a different story) When our relative gets new car, we lose patience. we too get one in loan. When he gets a new flat, we lose patience. we get one too. A guy riding bicycle dream of driving a bike. A guy driving a bike dream of a car. The guy in the car dream of even bigger like AUDI,BMW. Guy in BMW has other dreams. I dont condemn dreaming. we should expect or wait for our chance in life with patience.

Question - “What we gain when we lose our patience?”

Moral ??????

First answer my question.!!! :):):)

Real Citizen.. Are We ?

Who is a real citizen?? Only CITIZEN KANE..???

  • Guy speaks about his country (Only when others speak ill of it…)

  • Speaks about politics. (Only in Tea kadai bench…)

  • Raise funds during calamities/war. (Govt. deduct one day salary from all employees.. )

  • Stand first in line to vote during election

  • Support youngsters who stands in election.

  • Raise voice against corruption (but how..? )

  • Know the names of current MPs, MLAs and Cabinet Ministers.

  • Knows Country’s economy at finger tips.

  • Heads up when country wins the world cup, Celebrate in streets..

  • Watch daily updates on news channels..

  • Participate in rally on National interest.

  • Debate on current politics
Does all this qualify a guy to be agmarked as the good/best citizen..?
I do agree that 3 0f 5 person does the above things atmost. Is that enough?
In my opinion, these things helps a guy to clear the competitive exams but in which way it helps for the development of the nation..

“Being a good citizen to the nation is almost the same like being a good son to a father…!”

Nowadays, who cares a Father-Son relation…? Son needs only money from the father and nothing more.. He is selfish in some way. What he gives in return.. joins his father in a oldage home. (not all..)
Same is the case for a Citizen.. He needs to utilise all the Benefits/Infrastructures/Services but curse for their irregularities/corruption/Disorderliness..

My Point here is, Do we respect the nation? In what way?? Do we need to fight at the borders? Join politics ? join hands with Anna Hazare ?
Think of the below which we lack to be a responsibile citizen…

  • Obey Traffic rules - Stop the vehicle before Stop line, Wait till it turns green, Follow lane rules. Giving way for an speeding ambulance…(its hurting to see many following the vechile to get a clear route…) Are we on track?? (In a PM language… )

  • Paying Taxes - Ofcourse an IT guy pays his tax (Actually plucked by employers… ), How we give false medical bills to increase the tax exemption, False HRA lease agreements, LTA bills…

  • Bribing - Pay the traffic police to move out of scene, RTO to get licence, Under valuing the property to avoid stamp charges, Pay a Govt official to get his work done. (TN Bribery complaint: 044-24455089, 24615989, 24455088.. it worked for me thrice..

  • Indian Branded Products - Using only our own Indian Branded products over foriegn brands..

  • Paying more than MRP - Do we question the shop keeprs who collect the amount more than the actual MRP. (For our info, MRP is Maximum Retail Price, the maximum amount that can be collected from the consumer and so, even MRP can be bargained.. )

  • Following Q’ - Do we really follow Queue anywhere.? (Dont promise me… i remeber Q defintion in Datastructures now.. First IN First OUT.. Are we? )

  • Believe in Free Bees - Every voter rely on free bees offered. Nothing in this world comes for Free. They need vote, you need amount or product. (More than just a business trasaction…)

  • Resisting Child Labour - Do we really care a boy/girl working in restuarants cleaning plates.. We really care about is the menu, taste and on time serving of the orders….

  • Gossips - Cinema Gossips, Cricket Gosips, Workplace gossips (When are we going to put an end..)

  • Secularism - Do we really care about the caste and religion.. Encourage inter-caste marraige, Favouring our caste guys, Join with only our caste/religion people.. (Where are we heading actually…??)
These are some of the areas that we can contribute and be proud to say that we are real citizens of the nations.. (But first, actually we need to be a good human.. its a Human thing…!! :):) )

Alternative to Petrol… !!!

I am writing this blog about alternative to petrol after the government announces another price hike in petrol prices which reaches the all time high of Rs. 67.76 (:O OMG..!!!)

Now, It is time for me to sit and analyse how to cut the transportation cost in my monthly budget as i travel nearly 30 km daily from Velachery to MEPZ.

Rocketting fuel prices made me to curse myself for buying a low fuel efficient bike like Yamaha FZ16. :)

Though being a bachelor, its hard for me to accept, think of a family man.?? :O

It also made me to think about a solution or an alternative like

  • Using petrol.
  • Using Yamaha FZ
  • Using Bike.
  • Being in MEPZ :P

There can be many a solutions for this. Hope it is not a permanent solution.

Let me guess about few of the alternatives which may or may not be a solution for my monthly budget problem.

  • Buying a fuel efficient bike like TVS sport - A High Mileage bike (True.. but how to manage my GF. ;))
  • Buying a Diesel car/bike. ( come on.. i m planning for budget…)
  • Using company transport. (MEPZ we dont have an option. May be i can try if i move to SIPCOT)
  • Using Public transport/Cycle (No way.. :( )
  • Change my house near MEPZ. ( What iif i change the company..??? )
  • India being largest producers of oil resources –>Price comes down (OTF LOL)
  • Car pooling. (Even Cognizant encourages.. A better option till now..)
  • Raise our voices against govt to reduce its price. (hmmm.. 8-)

These are the points that came to my mind first…

Even you could provide a better solution than me and i like to hear that too.

Looking for your updated list …. :)

Treat... (But What for...??)

Hi Everyone,

There are reasons to celebrate.. For an IT guy, there are N-teen reasons to celebrate..

In Chronological order

  • Joining New Team - Welcome Treat
  • Girl next project gets intro - Treat ( i av heard man… :))
  • Appraisal - Treat
  • Work Hectic - Team Outing a week b4.. :)
  • Project Execution - Treat
  • Project Release - Treat
  • New Car/Bike - Treat
  • Birthday/Anniversary - Treat (Includes Wife’s b’day too… :) PITY)
  • Onsite - Treat
  • Onsite Return - Treat
  • Girl Fixed/Engagement/Marriage - Treat (Surely 2nd point mismatches with this one… :P )
  • Wife Pregnant - Treat
  • Child birth - Ofcourse Treat
  • Weekend for a change - Treat (TTM TTM.. Explained by my fellow employee - THAT THAT MAN THAT THAT MONEY… :P)

This list still goes on… (List excludes Team Outing at project expenses….)

On an average, single IT Guy during his career he spends nearly 1lakh in the so called “TREAT”.

Thats why we have more Restuarants in OMR road and Resorts in ECR Road.

Its their wish to spend their HARD earned money by whatever means…. Chennai is one such place for that….

Lots of Malls, Hotels, Restuarants, Theme Park, Resorts, Tourist Spots….. Their main focus is the CORPORATES.. Thats why every time you walk in, they say they give you corporate discount.. TRUE, but the reason is, they make you come back to them..!!!!

Ok, What is my point here…

Are we not happy here without treats ???

we spend 5K on an average for a treat. But how much we spend for our family members for entertaining them. Do we take them out for dinner? Most of us agree so.. But are we interested in taking them for a family tour, family outing.. Most would say NO. How long its been since your last family tour.? When iis that you gave your sister a present ? When is that you hang out with your Local Area/School/College Friends? Ofcourse you have time for your Team lunch and Team outing…. we like to take our team mates (Girls included) out, share a ride, dine out.. But are we the same when we go to our HOME, SWEET HOME???

  • Happiness is not the Total amount Spent in a month.
  • Happiness is the Total Time we spend with our Loved Ones…!! (Ofcourse money involved.. But how much… do we care??)

So why did i give figures for a Team Lunch???

Spending money for the team mates isn’t any harm.. But Why should we?

Everyone Earns as equal as you. If you give treat to 10 guys. 10 should give back to you. So 5K * 10 = 50K. Where this money goes…? (All to the hands of Politicians… Most of the restaurants/ Hotels/ Resorts will run in their family member names..)

We earn from the MNCs… Where does that go? Again to the MNCs. KFC, McDonalds, Reebok, PUMA, Adidas, Nike, Lee, Benetton. Levis, Woodland…etc All are MNC gaining from the Indian IT guys.. Do we care to buy a Indian Brand. Atleast do we know the names?? In the company, everybody cares about is the brand.. Reebok Tees, Reebok Shoes..etc.. Fridays are meant to show their grandness… Do others really care them..? I guess not.. Coz they too wear the same branded outfits….(Hold on..something written on my tees… what is it??? It says “Lee” :P)…. I mean here is not about quality.. Indian Branded items also have quality.. Do we dare to try them…?

ok, What does this post implies?

Bullet Points

  • Reduce the Team treat/outing expenditure. Spent the same planned amount on Children orphanages, Old Age Homes.
  • Spent more time with your family, friends (College,School.)
  • Work 8 hours a day. (Is my PM standing back of me now??? :))
  • Visit to a village. Interact with kids..
  • Regain contact with old friends..

Life is much more….:)
